Nothing makes me more happier than seeing parents

Nothing makes me more happier than seeing parents and children proud of their transformations! This is why I do what I do! ❤️ I love that I GET TO help transform the lives of families each day. I love that I GET TO help families change their legacy. No longer will their children have to struggle in the same areas they used to struggle when they were younger. Parents GET TO give their children the tools and skills they needed when they were younger. 📚

I remember how lost my parents felt when it came to my education and how to find the resources. This was before we had Google. 😉I remember as a kid, feeling like something was wrong with me because I didn’t understand something.

Looking back, I see it was all part of God’s plan.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

For me to know what it feels like to be in a child’s shoes, for me to experience first-hand what my parents went through, and to understand unconditional love from my parents. They made so many sacrifices for me when I was younger and I’m grateful for the blessings they gave me to bless and make an impact on others. 🫶🏽

Is your child a fluent reader but their teacher says they struggled with reading comprehension and you’re not sure why?

It’s mostly likely due to vocabulary development. Vocabulary development is the process of acquiring new words, understanding what they mean, and how to put them in a sentence.

Your child may not understand a word from the reading comprehension question being asked, therefore, they don’t know how to answer it.

My favorite way to help my students develop their vocabulary is by making FLASHCARDS ⚡️

You’ll need:

⭐️ 3 x 5 flashcards
⭐️ colors (in this video we used @kwikstixpaint )
⭐️ paper

STEPS:

1️⃣ on one side of the flashcard write the word. Other side write the definition and the word in a sentence

2️⃣ Draw a picture on a paper (that helps your child understand what the word means) and on the back write the word in 3 different colors.

3️⃣ Lastly, play a game of charades. Place each flashcard in a cup, pull it out, act it out, and the other player has to guess what word it is. Then switch.

Did you know research shows that students use fine motor skills up to 60% of the school day?

⭐️ WHAT ARE FINE MOTOR SKILLS?

Fine motor skills refer to how we use the smaller muscle groups in our bodies to perform tasks. The most common examples involve the muscles in the hands, fingers and wrists.

⭐️ WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT?

Children use their fine motor muscles to tie their shoes, feed themselves, put their clothes on, write, or cut paper with scissors.

There are so many fun ways to practice fine motor skills! 😃

Here’s an example of a fine motor skills activity:

Q-TIP painting 🎨

All you need are q-tips, paint, and paper. Feel free to search “q-tip art printable” on google to download free printables if you want to have your little one follow the dots. If not, they can do their own art on a blank sheet of paper. ❤️

In this video, you can see how my student started with holding the q-tip and then over time (& with guidance) how his grip changed. By the end of the session, he was able to grip the pencil correctly all by himself.

COMMON MISTAKE PARENTS MAKE WHEN TEACHING THEIR CHILD HOW TO READ

❌ Picking books in their child’s grade level even though their child is reading below grade level. By doing this, this may make your child feel frustrated and want to give up because they are struggling to decode words. If they are struggling to read the words, chances are they won’t remember what they just read and not understand how to answer comprehension questions.

✅ DO pick books at your child’s reading level. Your child’s teacher can tell you your child’s reading level. Meet your child where they are at. Build upon the foundational reading skills they are struggling with and over time, their reading will progress.

Before we can achieve the big goal, we have to set small goals for them to achieve that lead up to the big goal.

If they are not understanding a word in a text, do not just let them skip it. Have them get a 3x5 flashcard and write the word on one side. On the other side they will write the definition, draw a picture, and write the word in a sentence. They can look up the word on www.dictionary.com This website will also show them how to break up the word by syllables so they can learn how to sound out other words that are similar in the future.

It’s important for your child to know what words mean, how to use them in a sentence, and to learn how to segment sounds.

Remember, the goal is to have them become confident independent readers! 🌟
